Jörn J. Burmester kam über das freie Theater und ein Studium der Angewandten Theaterwissenschaft in Gießen zur Performancekunst. Weiterhin auf kein Genre festgelegt, ist der Ausgangspunkt seiner künstlerischen Erkundungen heute meist die Performancekunst in ihren zahlreichen Erscheinungsformen. Er entwickelt und zeigt Soloperformances, Kollaborationen und Gruppenarbeiten mit zahlreichen Partnern in ganz Europa, Nord- und Südamerika. Zu seinen Interessen gehören die Verwendung von Sprache als Material, Zufallsoperationen und partizipative Verfahren.
Die ehrenamtliche Arbeit an Organisation und Kritik von Performancekunst sind integrale Bestandteile seiner performativen Praxis. Burmester ist Gründer und Gastgeber des Performer Stammtisch, ein Netzwerk Berliner Performancekünstler, Mitbegründer des Monats der Performancekunst Berlin MPA–B und der Association for Performance Art in Berlin – APAB e.V.

Jörn J. Burmester came to performance art through independent theatre and studying Applied Theatre Studies in Gießen and New York City. Still mobile between genres, today he usually takes performance art in all its manifestations as the vantage point for his explorations. He devises and shows solo works and collaborates with a variety of partners and groups all over the world. Among his interests are the use of language as a material, chance operations and participatory parctices.
Voluntary work on organisation and criticism of performance art are integral parts of his performative practice. Burmester is the founder and host of Performer Stammtisch, a Berlin network of performance artists, a co-founder of the Month of Performance Art – Berlin MPA–B and of the Association for Performance Art in Berlin – APAB e.V.
